ePermit
CUNY E-permit: (1) To request permission from ‘home’ college to take courses at other CUNY colleges. (2) Is an electronic form in CUNYfirst where some students can self-apply, while other students must complete their first semester and earn an eligible Baruch GPA first. (3) Courses taken on e-permit must meet the student’s current degree requirements to graduate from Baruch College. (4) Baruch students must complete 60% of courses within the Major as well as all Capstone courses at Baruch College (aka in-residence). Transfer and Permit credits will not count toward the 60% requirement. (5) Students are responsible to comply with the appropriate policies, procedures, requirements, and restrictions currently in place at Baruch College.
Interested in ‘Outgoing Non-CUNY Permit Application’? Pay extra attention to ‘Taking Courses Outside of CUNY’ on this website. This category of request is NOT an E-permit.
Understanding Home versus Host College
Home College – The college where students are matriculated (pursuing a degree).
Host College – The college where students would take classes in order to transfer the credits back to the home college.
The E-permit Process – An Overview (more details to follow)
- Baruch College applicants (and applicant representatives), please read and comprehend this entire website to prepare to submit ‘valid and eligible’ e-permit requests.
- There are No Guarantees. Submitting e-permits does not guarantee approval permission, and approval permission does not guarantee, save, or hold seats at any college.
- Students should inquire at other host colleges for enrollment dates and procedures governing CUNY students on e-permit at their college and check their course requisites.
- Wait for home college(Baruch) and the applicable host college(s) to open their own e-permit portals.
- Fill out e-permit form(s) thoroughly. *Valid and eligible requests only.*
- Successful submissions wait in a queue for home college(Baruch) review and decision. A second level committee review may be needed at Baruch.
- If home college(Baruch) grants permission, the form will update to ‘Approved’. The system generates emails to notify the other colleges to review (to grant or deny) registration access. Must wait for their decision via email or check your CUNYfirst account. The other college’s decision does not appear in the form.
- If registration access is granted by the other college, students should self-enroll into the approved course & approved host session in CUNYfirst-Schedule Builder.
- A Denied or Cancelled e-permit receives no further consideration. It is not possible to reactivate that form. The other college would not receive notification for Denied or Cancelled e-permits.
- Important Warning: Approved e-permits are valid for (1) Host college, (2) Host course, (3) Host Session, and if applicable (4) Home course/equivalent stated specifically in the ‘Approved’ form; not valid for anything else. Any deviation from the approval will be invalid. Invalid credits will be for your personal record only, and we are not mandated to accept them.
