Graduation and Diplomas
In order to be considered for a degree, an application is required. Students may apply through CUNYFirst using the pull-down menu in their student service center. For step-by-step instructions, click here. Students who have been previously denied or students who are trying to revise their graduation date must submit the Application for Graduation.
Once the degree audit has been conducted, students will be notified via their student email account with graduation audit updates. If a student has been denied for the requested graduation, they must file a new Application for Graduation. Students who are found to be on track to earn their degree for the requested graduation date may not rescind their request in order to take additional classes past their degree requirements.
Degrees are conferred three times a year:
- January 1 (finishing in the Fall term of the previous year)
- June 1 (finishing in the Winter session or Spring term of the same year)
- September 1 (finishing in the Summer session of the same year)
No changes will be made to students’ academic records after the degree has been awarded.
All degree requirements must be met before the degree conferral date. This includes:
- Posting of all grades for enrolled courses
- Resolution of incomplete/temporary grades (INC, PEN, Y)
- Grade change (Grade changes must be done within 30 days of degree conferral.)
- Submission of major projects, thesis, or comprehensive exams
- Permit and study abroad course grades (An official transcript from the host college must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office at Baruch College. It is not recommended to go on permit or study abroad during your final semester, as it may jeopardize your graduation.)
Online Application for Graduation: Dates and Deadlines
Students can apply for graduation through their CUNYfirst Student Center during the following periods for each term. If students would like to apply for graduation before the online application opens, the Application for Graduation can be submitted.
- Fall graduation: opens June 16; closes September 15
- Spring graduation: opens on September 16; closes on February 15
- Summer graduation: opens on February 16; closes on June 15
Cancellation of Graduation
Students who file for graduation are not allowed to enroll in any courses towards the program after the intended graduation term. Once you have met all degree requirements, you must graduate. If you wish to take additional courses, you must be admitted to a new degree program or enroll in courses as a non-degree-seeking student.
If you need to change your expected date of graduation or are denied graduation you must submit a revised Application for Graduation to the Office of the Registrar. The record will be reactivated, allowing registration for the subsequent term (only if degree requirements have not been met). Once the graduation application has been canceled, students must reapply for graduation.
Commencement
“Graduation” or “conferral of degree” are synonymous. They refer to the date that the degree is awarded. “Commencement” is the ceremony that is held once a year in late May or early June. Attendance at Commencement is not a guarantee of degree conferral.
Please note:
- Students who file their Summer 2026 graduation applications after March 1, 2026, will not find their names in the 2026 Commencement Program. All Summer 2026 graduates’ names will appear in the 2027 Commencement Program.
- Students who graduate as of September 1, 2025, or January 1, 2026, will appear in the 2026 Commencement Program.
- For information about Commencement, please check with the Office of Student Life (Newman Vertical Campus, Room 2-210) or visit Commencement @ Baruch.
Graduate Students
Graduate students must be enrolled or maintain matriculated status for the semester in which they intend to graduate.
Students must be registered for courses taken towards a degree at Baruch College. If no coursework is registered during the intended graduation term, a Maintenance of Matriculation fee will be charged.
Maintenance of Matriculation Fee (for graduate students only):
| NYS Residents | $225.00 per semester |
| Non-Residents | $370.00 per semester |
Diplomas
Effective Spring 2020, diplomas are customarily available approximately 2 to 3 months after the degree conferral date. Once they are available, an email will be sent to the student email account from the college’s diploma distributor, Parchment. Instructions will be provided on how to view the digital diploma and track the delivery of the physical diploma. Unless requested for pick up, diplomas will be mailed to the Home address on file. To change the Home address, students can follow the instructions found here.
Students who want to change their first/last name or address can fill out a Personal Data Change Form. If you graduated prior to Spring 2020 or requested to pick up your diploma and now want it to be mailed, follow the instructions stated on the Request for Diploma to be Mailed form. The form must be filled out and include a copy of your photo ID to be accepted.
International mailings to addresses outside of the U.S. frequently take several weeks to arrive from the date they are sent. It is strongly recommended that you authorize a proxy located in the New York City area to pick up the diploma instead of international mailing, if at all possible. All international diplomas are mailed from the Office of the Registrar by standard USPS delivery without tracking unless prepaid mailing is provided. The Office of the Registrar is not responsible for diplomas that are lost in the mail.
