    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to apply for financial aid every year?

Yes! The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) needs to be filled out every year. The FAFSA is available on October 1 of the preceding year.

What is the deadline to submit my FAFSA?

The priority deadline to submit your 2024-2025 FAFSA is June 30th, 2024.

If I pay for my entire tuition out of my own pocket and then later qualify for financial aid, will I be refunded?

    Yes.

What happens after I have submitted the FAFSA?

Once you have received your FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS), you should read it carefully as it will explain the type of aid you can qualify for. If you have been admitted to Baruch College or are a continuing student and added Baruch’s school code to your FAFSA, we will receive it within 5-7 business days.

    What does "verification" mean?

    Please read our Verification page.

How much aid did I receive?

After we receive your FAFSA—and if it is determined you qualify for federal student aid—you will receive an award letter to the email address used to file your FAFSA.

If I receive financial aid, do I have to pay my bill?

You are responsible for charges not covered by financial aid.

My aid exceeds my tuition and fees. Can I get that money?

If your financial aid exceeds the cost of tuition and fees, you will be refunded the difference either by direct deposit or with a paper check mailed to the address we have on file.

My financial aid doesn't appear on my bill. Will my classes be dropped?

If you do not have anticipated aid on your CUNYfirst account and do not resolve your bill, your courses will be dropped.

Are international students eligible for federal aid?

No, international students are not eligible for federal aid.

My parents don't give me any money. Can I exclude their income information when I apply for financial aid?

    No.

If my familly income changes from the prior year, can I apply for an adjustment to use current-year income?

Yes, you may apply for an adjustment, but you must be able to document the decrease in income.
