December 2021 Issue | Spring back to Campus Life!

With a fall semester that saw a successful return to campus, Baruch College looks forward to an even more typical spring semester. High compliance rates with our vaccine and mask mandates means we’ve seen very low Covid infection rates, which means we can move forward with even more in-person classes and activities in the spring semester. With safety always in mind and a close eye on CDC guidance, including with regard to new variants, we are offering roughly twice as many in-person classes in spring as were available in fall.

There are a number of factors that make us eager to resume more in-person classes. The decision to offer more in-person options is grounded in research that indicates that in-person learning supports course completion for many students such as those in Baruch’s unique and talented population. Further, and most pragmatically, Baruch College’s accreditation depends on a robust, majority in-person, set of course offerings. Finally, we believe that a greater on-campus presence will provide greater opportunities for creative collaboration, social interaction – both intentional and serendipitous – and building community in a way that has been sorely lacking for almost two years. At the same time, we acknowledge that for some students it will be more convenient to take courses online. We must balance those preferences with the need to offer an academically rigorous and pedagogically appropriate schedule of classes.
